The first basic difference is of the material they are made up of – acoustic guitar is made up of wood. There is no electronic equipment used in it. On the other hand electric guitars can be made of either wood, metal or other electronic pieces which are installed in its body. This makes it heavier than an acoustic one.

Strings of electric guitars are made up of steel which are much lighter in weight and easier to play than the other one. Strings of acoustic at lower bass are made up of bronze alloy because of its resonance qualities and this is the reason why acoustic guitars are louder.

While setting up or repairing a guitar following steps must be followed:

While setting an acoustic guitar you have to follow these tips first check its neck relief and then after neck line is set, you have to check the nut and the height of strings and in the last step you have to set the height of the saddle, with the help of a sand paper. Thus in general we can say that the set up consists of neck, nut and saddle.

In electric guitars you have to undergo a much complicated process, i.e. of adjusting the truss rod, setting the strings height for proper tuning, checking the saddle and setting the right height for playing. In electric guitars you need an amplifier, cables and pedals for setting up the tone of your guitar.

These are the various methods of a guitar set up, and the difference in setting up of both the types. But while repairing or checking any guitar you must do it carefully and if you are not able to do it, then consult a professional.
