How the Classical Guitar is Different from Other Guitars

The classical guitar has nylon strings, a wide fret board and usually does not have a pick guard. Many times the strings wind up in an opening in the headstock instead of on tuning pegs.

Traditionally, a classical guitar is played while balancing the instrument on the left knee and held with the neck in an up angle. Classical guitars don’t have to be played in this fashion. The nylon strings are easier to pluck and less stressful on the fingers. Also, the wide fret board makes it easier to find the place you need to put your finger.
