Are you interested in buying and learning to play an electric guitar? Perhaps you already know how to play an acoustic guitar and want to expand your playing skills to include an electric guitar. There are several things you’ll want to keep in mind when you shop for an electric guitar.

You’ll find a number of basic electric guitar types. We usually associate with rock music with solid body guitars. Solid body electric guitars are available from a variety of manufacturers, and come in various colors and shapes. There is also a wide range of price tags available on electric guitars, so it beneficial to know which features you need, as well as the features you’ll just be paying extra for.

You’ll also find a selection of hollow body electrics, as well as electric acoustics. An electric acoustic guitar is really just an acoustic guitar which has been wired in order for it to be hooked up to an amplifier. It still sounds and plays like a regular acoustic guitar, however, you’ll have the option of cranking up your volume without having to play it close to a microphone.

A hollow body electric guitar is more or less a hybrid of the two other styles. It generally has “F” shaped holes and a thin, hollow body. It also has tone and volume knobs, as well as other unique features of the solid body electric.

Odds are you’re actually interested in executing some hot licks using a solid body electric guitar. If you’re just starting out or you intend to travel a lot, it makes sense to buy a less expensive model. Likewise, if you’re not sure you are committed to learning to play an electric guitar, you probably don’t want to invest in an expensive one either.

Keep in mind that you’ll also need to purchase an amplifier, so be sure to budget for the extra expense. Have fun learning to play your new electric guitar!
